Matt Damon is making his long-awaited return to the Bourne franchise with this weekend's release of JASON BOURNE, so there could be no better time to drop the trailer for his upcoming period piece/action adventure/monster movie epic THE GREAT WALL.

The most expensive Chinese movie of all time, THE GREAT WALL was directed by Zhang Yimou from a story crafted by Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull and WORLD WAR Z author Max Brooks. The screenplay was written by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, and Tony Gilroy (who worked on the scripts for every Bourne movie except JASON BOURNE).

Damon plays

a soldier who is part of a group of mercenaries traveling to China in order to bring back gunpowder to Europe. When the group is attacked by mystical beasts, the man finds himself in a war between a secret warrior clan and the beasts.

His co-stars include Willem Dafoe, Pedro Pascal, Andy Lau, Luhan, and Jing Tian.

The trailer is really cool, and the prospect of getting to see Damon battle ancient Chinese monsters is too good for me to pass up. I will definitely be checking out THE GREAT WALL when it reaches theatres on February 17, 2017.
