Miramax deal pushes back Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

The last we heard on the Guillermo del Toro produced flick DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK was back in August, when we got a look at a new trailer for the flick and the expected release date was going to be January 21st. Well folks things have changed quite a bit in these past couple of months…

You see according to the LA Times, the pending deal between Walt Disney Studios and Filmyard Holdings for Miramax Films has put a damper on things. Disney have decided that until the deal is done, which is expected to finish up later this year, a couple projects are being put on the backburner. Can you guess what one of the projects is? Yup, you’ve guessed it: Troy Nixey’s DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK! Apparently Disney didn’t want to spend money on marketing a film they won’t be releasing so they thought it best just to wait until the deal is done. Filmyard Holdings are planning on securing a different distributing partner and sending out the flick later next year. Producers Mark Johnson and Guillermo del Toro are far from pleased about the announcement. Check out what del Toro had to say:

“It’s been 13 years trying to make this movie, and we finally make it. It’s quite shocking. I am trying to see the silver lining in this.”

The two producers aren’t the only ones upset about the news as I’m sure plenty of you were looking forward to DON’T BE AFRAID FO THE DARK as well… Good going Disney.

A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.

The film stars Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes, Bailee Madison, Alan Dale, Julia Blake and Jack Thompson and is now due for release sometime next year.
