Those crazy cats over at The Asylum, who had a huge hit last year with SHARKNADO on SyFy, are set to bring us another nature-run-amok flick on TV this Memorial Day weekend, but you won't be seeing it on the SyFy network. This time The Asylum have teamed up with Animal Planet to bring us BLOOD LAKE: ATTACK OF THE KILLER LAMPREYS, and they've brought along Shannen Doherty ("Beverly Hills, 90210"), Christopher Lloyd (BACK TO THE FUTURE) and Jason Brooks ("Days of Our Lives") for the trip.
Killer lampreys seem to be a hot trend right now as this is the second film featuring the aquatic beasties that we've reported on in as many months, the first being director Brandon Slagle's DEAD SEA (peep the trailer for that one HERE). I guess lampreys are just one more reason to avoid the water this summer.
James Cullen Bressack directs BLOOD LAKE: ATTACK OF THE KILLER LAMPREYS, which will find Animal Planet getting in on the b-movie fun that The Asylum and SyFy has had so much success with. The film will debut as part of Animal Planet's third annual "Monster Week", in which the network will also be unveiling a new documentary about large cats thirsting for human blood entitled "Man-Eating Zombie Cats".
In BLOOD LAKE: ATTACK OF THE KILLER LAMPREYS...
Doherty and company battle lampreys -- eel-like fish with huge teeth and funnel-shaped mouths -- after they slide their way into the city's sewer system and start terrorizing the residents of a small Michigan town.
Brooks plays Michael, a fish and wildlife expert who moves to the town with his wife, Cate (Doherty), after being summoned by the town mayor, Akerman (Lloyd), to help deal with its attacking fish problem.
But with these blood-suckers on the loose, the town's residents quickly learn that a casual dip in the pool or routine trip to the toilet can turn deadly as the lampreys hunt for their next victim.
"River Monsters" star Jeremy Wade makes a cameo appearance.
BLOOD LAKE will premiere on Sunday, May 25 at 9 p.m. on Animal Planet.
