Earlier this week
we got word that Ian McShane had been cast in the upcoming horror/fantasy from director David Cunningham entitled THE DARK IS RISING, which is based on a series of books by Susan Cooper. Today The Hollywood Reporter
has announced a couple of new cast members to join the flick, and so far, the cast is looking solid!
Gregory Smith, Christopher Eccleston, Amelia Warner, Emma Lockhart, Gary Entin, Edmund Entin, Jonathan Jackson, Frances Conroy and John Benjamin Hickey have all been cast in the film, which begins principal photography February 26th in Romania. Smith is set to star as the young boy's brother, and Eccleston is up for the film's villain, known as 'The Rider'. I've seen Eccleston in stuff before (like 28 DAYS LATER
), and I can picture him perfectly
as the bad guy- nice casting job there!
Still haven't memorized what the film's about yet? Check it: THE DARK IS RISING tells the story of Will Stanton (newcomer Alexander Ludwig), a boy whose everyday life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of the "Old Ones," a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. As he uncovers a series of mysterious clues, some dating back to the founding of Britain and others going all the way back to biblical times, Will discovers that with the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in his hands.
Apparently the book series (entitled 'The Dark is Rising Sequence') is some 'hot shit', and entertaining as hell. May just be worth checking out in its entirety before
the film comes out. No word on when they expect to release this badboy, but if it's as epic as it sounds like it should be, maybe next Summer? We'll have to wait and see...
