But here's the kicker folks. The press release not only confirms that a MOTHER'S DAY remake is on the way... but that a WHOLE FRANCHISE is being planned! It may be a bit pre-mature but an entire MOTHER'S DAY franchise is already being planned. Damn! Can you really see a whole franchise spanning from the twisted 80s flick? Well considering Darren Lynn Bousman is directing I think it's entirely possible! That's right, Bousman has been confirmed to be stepping behind the camera for the first MOTHER'S DAY of this new franchise. As previously reported Scott Milam penned the script.
Twisted Pictures, The Genre Company, and Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment are triple teaming this one in the producing department. The list of producers include Twisted's Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Carl Mazzocone along with Genre Co’s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten with Rat Entertainment's Brett Ratner and Jay Stern rounding out the bunch. Executive producers include finacing partner LightTower Entertainment's Jonathan Zucker and Curtis Leopardo, Genre Co’s Stephen Kessler, the original's director Charles Kaufman, and Troma Entertainement's Lloyd Kaufman. Shara Kay will co-produce with Jessie Rusu associate producing. That's a mouth-ful.
Producers rarely matter to a film's marketing but that is some list! The flick follows a family of villains, led by a smart, manipulative and sadistic mother, who return to the house where they grew up and terrorize the new owners and their guests and will be looking at a Spring 2010 release date. Just in time for Mother's Day!
One of my favorite moms of Hollywood - Kate Beckinsale.
