Back in April we brought the news that Universal Pictures had tapped Evan Spiliotopoulos (BATTLE FOR TERRA) to work on its film version of the board game OUIJA. Spiliotopoulos was replacing TRON LEGACY writers Edward Kitsis and Andrew Horowitz, but according to the L.A. Times, he's about to be replaced himself.
Perhaps "replaced" isn't the right word, but the fact is that yet another writer has boarded the project: Simon Kinberg. Kinberg burst upon the scene a few years ago with his MR. & MRS. SMITH screenplay, and has since become a formidable writer-producer, with credits on SHERLOCK HOLMES, JUMPER and X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Kinberg is "polishing" the script for OUIJA, which is obviously not yet in fighting shape.
Kinberg's involvement is most likely the responsibility of OUIJA director McG. The helmer's last film, THIS MEANS WAR (set for an early 2012 release), was penned by Kinberg. OUIJA is scheduled to come out on NOVEMBER 9th of next year. Its plot is still shrouded in mystery, but we know that it's been influenced by THE MUMMY and INDIANA JONES series.
