MTV’s Scream season 3 announces five new characters

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The last time we talked MTV's SCREAM around here was when I passed along the unfortunate news that the series was getting a total reboot for its upcoming third season. I have pointed out before and will many times more, that I was a big fan of the first two seasons of the show. Was it a great show? No way. Not the first season at least. The second got much better, however, and I was hoping season three would finally knock it out of the park.

Oh, well. No use crying over spilled blood.

Today we have news (via TVLine) that casting is underway for the new rebooted season. And said casting is set for five new characters. Cool thing is that the casting breakdown gives us not only the five new characters' names but a bit of info on their roles in the new season. Check out the details below.

SCREAM: THE TV SERIES' new characters:

1. DION

First up is Dion, a Michael B. Jordan-esque football player on track to score a college scholarship — that is, until a masked killer uses Dion’s darkest secrets against him, turning his life upside down and making him question his own sanity.

2. LIV

Liv is Dion’s cheerleader girlfriend, as beautiful as she is brilliant. She’s also down to lend a helping hand where needed, though her good intentions often land her in hot water.

3. KYM

Kym is the rebellious one of the group, always willing to say what everyone else is thinking. She’s organized and protective, two qualities that will serve her well when a killer starts targeting her friends.

4. BETH

Beth is a little different from her fellow seniors, sporting a goth look and a morbid collection of interests. A “walking encyclopedia of all things horror,” she’s compared to The Craft‘s Fairuza Balk.

5. JAMAL

And then there’s Dion’s step-brother Jamal. Despite hanging out with a rough crowd, he’s got a big heart and an undying loyalty to Dion.

The TV Line article also says that MTV is stressing diverse casting so Dion and Jamal are both black, while actresses of diverse backgrounds will be considered for the roles of Liv and Kym. Meaning, I guess, that Beth will be white.

Now I cannot help it but my "Killer Theories" sixth sense is already perking up. Take this Kym character for instance. Her name, to me, looks as if it may end up being an acronym; possibly for "killed your mother" or some other such nonsense. Also, notice how we have a character named Liv. Get it? Waka, waka. Anyhow, I'll get more into my killer theories once the series begins airing again.

For now, it seems that MTV's SCREAM will be back sometime in 2018.

Here you go, MTV. Here's your Beth.
