Aquarius, the NBC series revolving around a police investigation into the Manson Family, has officially gotten the axe. The show, which starred David Duchovny, had been subject to a highly experimental distribution policy that apparently didn't work in its favor. While the first season was made available to stream in its entirety following the premiere, the second episode attempted a revolutionary ad-free two-hour premiere that also didn't garner terrific ratings.

Although the show was planned to run for six seasons, it was prematurely cut down. This is a shame, but maybe this means Duchovny is free to explore The X-Files once again? Every cloud has to have a silver lining.

In Aquarius:

In 1967, Los Angeles police sergeant Sam Hodiak (Duchovny) is helped in a missing persons case by undercover officer Brian Shafe (Grey Damon), who behaves like a hippie and fits in with the people being questioned. Unknown to them, their investigation will lead them to Charles Manson.

"Aquarius" starred David Duchovny (X-Files), Gaius Charles (Grey’s Anatomy), Grey Damon (Star-Crossed), Michaela McManus (The Vampire Diaries), David Meunier (Justified), Emma Dumont (Bunheads), Chris Sheffield (The Last Ship) and Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones).
