05.31.2012by: Jared Pacheco

I guess this means NBC's "Hannibal" is kind of a big deal, huh?

Word coming in from Deadline London is dropping the news that Sony Pictures Television's AXN networks will be broadcasting "Hannibal" in 18 different languages, spanning across 63 countries! That's pretty intense, no? Especially for a show that hasn't even aired yet!

The project is described as a contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

Hugh Dancy will be starring as 'Will Graham' with David Slate set to direct the pilot for this shite. "Hannibal" is set to start filming in late July on it's 13-episode first season.

Extra Tidbit: On a scale from 1 to 10 how stoked are you for "Hannibal?"

From 1 to 10? Zero

Even if Hopkins was involved i wouldnt care, the character has gotten played out and NBC will hold on the spaghetti. Not to mention this storyline has already been told. Twice.

SB: I am initially cynical. How likely is it that NBC can do Hannibal right? How macabre can network TV get? And yes, I bear in mind that many crime shows get quite gruesome.
Most likely, NBC will exploit the Hannibal name. With thirteen episodes, scripts will overhumanize him; Hannibal is partially appealing and scary for being a mystery. Most likely, Hannibal: The TV Series will be simply a Dexter wannabe.
