I find the HOWLING franchise to be fascinating. It started out with a classic, one of the best werewolf movies ever made, and then quickly dove into low quality insanity. Somehow there is a total of eight films in the series, although I think it would be a rare horror fan who actually likes the majority of those films. I don’t like most of the HOWLING movies, but I keep going back to them from time to time just to examine the craziness.

So when I hear that author Bryn Curt James Hammond has set out to tell The Complete History of The Howling with a new book, I immediately get hyped for it, because I desperately want to hear behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this oddball franchise, I need to know the reasoning behind the decisions made on some of those sequels.

Coming to us from Miami Fox Publishing, the book promises to present

the complete account of one of the most popular and iconic legendary film franchises in cinema history. When The Howling premiered in 1981, the film introduced cinema-goers to an all-new kind of movie monster – shocking, visceral, graphic and relentless. Spawning seven popular sequels to date, the series has become the most prosperous werewolf franchise of all time.

Hammond says the book will contain

many amazing stills (unseen) & many colourful onset stories! Much of them NEVER covered due to the films only being made to pay the bills!

It will also feature “an all new story arc” written by Nick Stead, and a foreword by Philippe Mora, director of two of the weirdest entries in the series, THE HOWLING II: …YOUR SISTER IS A WEREWOLF and THE MARSUPIALS: THE HOWLING III.

Copies of the book will go on sale in May, with attendees of the Edinburgh Horror Con being the first fans who will have a chance to get their hands on a copy.
