This May, writer-producer Oren Peli will creep up on us in the midst of summer box office madness with CHERNOBYL DIARIES. We got a whiff of what to expect from this spooky sojourn into mutated territory last month when the trailer and poster landed, and now we’ve got the film’s first official still, which you can see above. Quite obviously, the blini has already hit the fan in this scene. Click it to see a bigger version.

The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…

CHERNOBYL DIARIES was directed by Brad Parker and written by Oren Peli, Carey Van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke. It hits theaters on MAY 25th.
