Independence Day: Resurgence Roland Emmerich Jeff Goldblum

The first trailer for INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE was moody and nostalgia-inducing, with alien invasion imagery that was accompanied by an audio clip of Bill Pullman's famous speech from the original INDEPENDENCE DAY. The newly released trailer ups the ante a bit, piling on the shots of destruction while also giving glimpses of the character interactions that will occur between that glorious blockbuster eye candy.

Directed by Roland Emmerich from a script he wrote with his INDEPENDENCE DAY co-writer Dean Devlin, with further work by James Vanderbilt, James A. Woods, and Nicolas Wright, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE has the following synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

The film stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, and William Fichtner.

This long-awaited sequel is set to reach theatres on June 24, 2016, twenty years after the first film.
