New look at Robocop and his old-fashioned holster

Apr. 9, 2013by: Eric Walkuski

We've seen plenty of images from Jose Padilha's ROBOCOP remake, but this one gives us a new perspective on the fellow: check out Robo's old-fashioned holster in the below photo! The gun doesn't issue from his thigh anymore, apparently. Interesting choice they have made. I like it.

Perhaps you have noticed this before, but we sure haven't. (Although there's the off-chance that this is just "standing in" for something a little more snazzy.)

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alexs life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before..

ROBOCOP stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley and Jennifer Ehle. It is set to open on February 7, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: What do you think of Robocop's holster?

Hopefully this old-fashioned holster will be just for filming. Fingers crossed that in the actual movie there would be a close-up shot of Robocop's within-the-leg holster like the original.

Meh

Keep forgetting this flick is even happening. Anyone even care? Buzz seems virtually nil.

This holster is only off screen

I'm 100% sure the gun continues to exit from his leg as before, I'm sure this holster we see here will be only off screen. The editing and the sound (open leg) will do the trick.

Wow, I forgot about this remake entirely until I saw this news. I'm kind of sad to see this as the thigh holster was one of the coolest parts of the original RoboCop's design. I understand the desire to be different, but why not give him a heavy duty tactical holster that matches the suit? Why some flimsy dollar store cap gun holster? I hate coming off as gripe-y, but the original is one of my favorites and I will never understand any of the choices made for this remake. P.S. I can see the foam

Illusion ruined. Unless of course it's supposed to be foam/rubber under the metal. But still...
