New Scream 5 film blu-ray box set coming next month

08.01.2011by: Marcey Papandrea

Have you been itching for a SCREAM film blu-ray box set? Well those itches are going to get scratched when a five film set hits next month. The three original films, which are already available on blu-ray separately, are getting re-boxed along with two additional films. So what are these two additional films? The documentaries STILL SCREAMING and SCREAM: THE INSIDE STORY.

Those right there are enough to get me interested in a purchase, as I love a good documentary and in this case there are two! Where does that leave SCREAM 4, which is not included? Well we do know that it is coming to DVD/Blu-ray in October (details here), but whether a set with all four films and two documentaries is in the works isn't known at this time.

You can pre-order the set right here, and it will drop on September 6th. Wes Craven directed the film trilogy and its cast includes Neve Campbell (below), David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Rose McGowan, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Jerry O'Connell, Liev Schreiber, Timothy Olyphant, Laurie Metcalf, Elise Neal, Patrick Dempsey, Scott Foley, Parker Posey, Emily Mortimer and Roger L. Jackson as The Voice.

Extra Tidbit: The documentary included in this set STILL SCREAMING, took a year to complete.

Considering Lionsgate now owns the DVD/Blu-ray distributing rights to the first three "Scream" films, and that The Weinstein Company/Anchor Bay will be handling "Scream 4" (and anymore that may be in the series), it's very unlikely that a complete "Scream" series collection will ever be released. Or at least not for a very long time. It's much like the "Child's Play" MGM/Universal issues, or the "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween" distributing issues. It sucks, but I guess that's the way it goes

Well that's kind of stupid. Why not just wait another month and include Scream 4? I'll probably pass on this one.
