New Scream mask revealed, and it isn’t the familiar Ghostface

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

MTV has revealed, via EW, the mask for its Scream TV series, and you can see it below (the classic is on top). Obviously, it feels familiar and new at the same time; I won’t judge it right now because I have to see it in action first, but it looks like the producers of the show hedged their bets and kept it just similar enough to the original Ghostface mask as to not piss off too many fans.

This is what executive producer Jill Blotevogel says about it: “It evokes some of the Jason hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask, but it’s still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask. It’s sort of a reinvention while also paying homage.”

Meanwhile, Wes Craven, of course the director of all four SCREAM films, is evidently on board with it: “The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction.  It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

Scream, which stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, John Karna, Bobby Campo and Bella Thorne, slashes MTV on June 30th.
