Night of the Living Dead to get the VR treatment

Night of the Living Dead Bill Hinzman

Virtual reality is a form of entertainment that I haven't really been paying much attention to. I see a lot about VR projects as I look over the news and have reported on some of them, but it just not something I intend to get swept up in… Still, I really have to sit up and take notice when I see that a new VR project in development is based on one of my favorite films of all time, George A. Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

VR production company Supersphere and NIGHT production company Image Ten are teaming up for "a multi-platform VR experience" based on NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, with the plan being to bring it to virtual reality headsets sometime next year.

Next year is a special one for the property, as it marks the 50th anniversary of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD's original theatrical release.

Image Ten's Gary Streiner, who worked on the set of NIGHT as a sound engineer, had this to say about the project:

Virtual reality is incredibly stimulating and offers a whole new slate of possibilities for ‘Night of the Living Dead’ fans to engage with the world and its characters."

Supersphere's Doug Allenstein added:

’Night of the Living Dead’ is one of those films that has become a cultural touchstone; it revolutionized the horror genre and to this day it influences how we envision zombies. We’re thrilled to be working with the team at Image Ten to now expand that franchise to the next generation of storytelling: virtual reality."

I still don't plan on getting into VR myself, but it's cool to know that this will be available for fans who are into virtual reality to experience.
