Official trailer and poster for The Monk, starring Vincent Cassel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Dominik Moll’s THE MONK, a supernatural thriller starring Vincent Cassel adapted from Matthew G. Lewis’ classic cult novel, is on the verge of hitting limited theaters and VOD here in the US (it opened overseas last year). With Cassel playing a pious monk steeped in supernatural weirdness and debauchery, the film looks like an engagingly creepy gothic drama/horror, and we have a new trailer and poster to offer you. Consider this your Cassel fix!

Abandoned as a baby on the steps of a monastery and raised in strict Capuchin fashion, Ambrosio (Cassel) has become the most famous preacher in the country. While large crowds from all over the country come to hear his mesmerizing sermons, he’s also bitterly envied for his success by certain fellow monks.

Convinced of his virtue and righteousness, Brother Ambrosio thinks he is immune to temptation… Until obscure events start terrorizing the monastery. Could they be connected to the unexpected arrival of Valerio, an apprentice monk who has the miraculous gift to relieve Ambrosio’s splitting headaches and hides his disfigured face under a wax mask?

THE MONK will be in select theaters, On Demand, and available for download starting Friday, March 8th.
