Peep the aliens who invade in new clip from Peter Berg's Battleship

04.19.2012by: Jake Dee

I just read an article saying that Peter Berg's BATTLESHIP is one of a few titles currently over-performing overseas. That must be music to Universal's ears, as the aqua-transformers film is tracking softer here in the states as it works toward its May 18th release. Maybe this new clip will help...it actually shows what the alien baddies look like. Ironman anyone?!?

BATTLESHIP is an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

BATTLESHIP cruises into theaters May 18th.

My only desire to see the film, Rihanna!

Extra Tidbit: You surprised to hear how well BATTLESHIP is doing overseas?

I haven't watched it yet but I hope Peter Berg doesn't slap the audiences in the face like he did in the second/third act of "Hancock".

No, in fairness he slaps the audiences in the face repeatedly, while using loud noise to break their will (as you would a terrorist suspect) before pissing all over them while laughing maniacally. Either he's a terrible director, or he found the concept (and the amount of money thrown at it) so laughable that he decided to make the worst movie possible, for a joke.

Re. Spilled blood: I'm not surprised but kind of depressed by that news. I was dragged to a screening and can report that Battleship is just as terrible as I expected, but even more cynical. It tries to play the "patriotic" card in a REALLY big way; ironically maybe insulting the intelligence of US audiences in this way could end up hurting its domestic sales. That and the fact that it's crap. The terrible script wouldn't matter if the action scenes weren't directed so badly. Oh and Jake, don't
