Peter Facinelli joins Dylan McDermott in claustrophobic chiller Freezer

Jan. 23, 2013by: Kevin Woods

There's just something unnerving about the idea of freezing to death. Just look at how the characters in Adam Green's FROZEN dealt with the threat of freezing to death in that modern classic. Yeah, some folks would go to extremes to avoid an unrelentingly cold demise. The cold makes for a formidable foe and that's part of the idea behind the upcoming thriller FREEZER.

Today we have the news that Peter Facinelli joins Dylan McDermott in the upcoming film directed by Mikael Salomon from a script by Tom Doganoglu and Shane Weisfeld. So what's it about?

Robert (McDermott), an everyday guy, finds himself tested beyond human endurance when he awakens to find himself locked in an industrial freezer by Russian thugs.  They insist he returns the $8 million dollars he stole from them, the only problem is, Robert has no idea what they are talking about.  Surprised as anyone would be, Robert finds he is not alone in the freezer when he finds Sam (Facinelli) hiding behind a series of boxes.  Unsure of each other, but stuck in a battle together, the two must join forces and fight for their lives before freezing to death, as the truth slowly reveals itself.

I'm getting a FROZEN meets SAW kind of vibe from that synopsis, and that's not at all a bad thing!

Peter Facinelli most recently starred in the TWILIGHT series as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, while AITH readers know Dylan McDermott best from his recent stint with AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

Producer Lee Nelson stated, “Peter Facinelli will surprise a lot of people with this character.  There is a subtlety and depth to his choices that keeps us guessing at every turn.  It’s something we haven’t seen from him before and it’s truly exciting to watch.”

The storyline seems intriguing enough and with that kind of talent attached I'm sure it'll be worth following. As always, the AITH staff will keep you posted as more news on FREEZER rolls in, so until then just chill out.

Extra Tidbit: I've always dug films like this. Claustrophobic thrillers such as BURIED and PHONE BOOTH always find a way to unnerve me. So what's your favorite claustrophobic thriller?
