The upcoming monster flick THE LOCH has been pretty quiet lately with the last news on this project was that SESSION 9 star Peter Mullan (bottom) has signed on for the lead role. The film was co-written by THE WOMAN IN BLACK director James Watkins and Simon Duric who is currently set to helm the project. Mullan is still expected to star but considering how long this one is taking to get off the ground there's really no telling where it's going to end up. That being said, we do have a solid plot synopsis and it's pretty hefty! It's an interesting approach to the legend of The Loch Ness Monster and seems like it's going to be pretty dark — check it out:

Michael McKidd seems to have the perfect life: a beautiful wife, two wonderful children, a high-powered job, all the trappings of success. But scratch the surface, and things are not as they appear. His business is nearing bankruptcy, and he has taken drastic measures to prevent anyone from finding out. With his life spiraling out of control, desperation is quickly setting in.

Trapped and fearing no way out, he decides to take his family away to Loch Ness in Scotland under the false pretenses of a family holiday. Driven to the brink, his real plan is to take their lives, believing they are better off dead than facing the shame of financial ruin and public humiliation.

But as he prepares for his family’s final moments, Michael’s plans are interrupted by something in the water. Lurking just under the surface is a malevolent creature, intent on terrorizing the family. As their lives are pulled apart by dark forces beyond their control, a bloody struggle for survival ensues, and Michael must fight to save his family from what lies beneath.

Well, very excited about a new loch ness monster project, I'd like to see a proper good one though, is this supposed to be a big budget film by the way? Nessie deserves that, at least once. They aren't many good movies on the subject. The Ted Danson one was cute and all but not the kind I now look forward to. "Incident at Loch ness" was ok but we need a good horror flick with Nessie. That's a pity this is not an adaptation of Steve Alten's "The loch" as I thought it would be... this is such

As for the extra tidbit, a lost big immigrating sturgeon has done the trick a few good times in the lake if you ask me ;).
