Portman v Zombies!

We’ve been talking about an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES for a while now. We’ve even been bouncing around with the rumor that the always gorgeous Natalie Portman was toying around with the idea of starring in the film. Well folks that isn’t a rumor anymore!

Variety just confirmed that not only will Portman be starring in the film, she’ll also be producing through her handsomecharlie shingle along with Annette Savitch. Darko Films’ Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm are also producing. Along the same lines as Jane Austen’s classic novel PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, the PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES adaptation will follow the timeless story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.

Portman will star as ‘Elizabeth Bennet, who is distracted from her quest to eradicate the zombie menace by the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy.’ That’s awesome. Portman playing a zombie killer in 19th century England? Oh I’m definitely down, as I’m sure most of you are! Producer Annette Savitch adds:

“Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen’s books and this a fresh, fun and thought-provoking way to approach her work. The idea of zombies running rampant in 19th Century England may sound odd, but it lends a modern sense of urgency to a well known love story.”

Well it’s nice to see things are moving right along with PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. Next stop? Perhaps a director? We’ll be keeping an eye out for any other news on the film so be sure to keep it here for updates.
