Poster for Bong Joon-ho’s Okja provides a tease of its creature

Bong Joon-ho Okja

A few weeks ago, a promo video for THE HOST director Bong Joon-ho's creature feature OKJA seemed to indicate that the mutant animal at the center of the story would be the result of some kind of "Super Pig Project". The poster for the film has now arrived online, featuring a shadow-bathed look at the titular creature – and it does appear that there could be some pig to Okja.

The fact that a little girl is leading Okja around with a leash on this poster gives it away that this isn't a "rampaging monster" movie like THE HOST was; it has been said that Okja is a "very shy and introverted animal".

The little girl is An Seo Hyun as Mija, who

must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja.

If you want to know a little more than that, here's a longer synopsis:

For 10 idyllic years, young Mija (An Seo Hyun) has been caretaker and constant companion to Okja – a massive animal and an even bigger friend – at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But that changes when the family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and transports her to New York, where image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) has big plans for Mija’s dearest friend.

With no particular plan but single-minded in intent, Mija sets out on a rescue mission, but her already daunting journey quickly becomes more complicated when she crosses paths with disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja… while all Mija wants to do is bring her friend home.

Also in the cast are Lily Collins, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kelly Macdonald, Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito, Devon Bostick, Byun Hee-bong, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, Choi Woo-shik, and The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun.

OKJA will premiere on Netflix on June 28th.
