Promo banner & poster for Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, starring Sharlto Copley

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I'm a Neill Blomkamp fan. I consider his DISTRICT 9 to be one of the very best films (of any genre) I've seen in the past decade, and while views on his Matt Damon-starring ELYSIUM were split, I found it to be highly engaging and enjoyable. That's why I'm very intrigued by his upcoming CHAPPIE, a sci-fi flick that stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, and features Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley as the voice of the titular character. Even more interesting (well, to me at least) is the casting of South African zef duo Die Antwoord (Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er) in lead roles.

Above you will find the first banner for CHAPPIE, which is being used to promote the film at San Diego Comic-Con. But you wanna see ol' CHAPPIE himself, don't ya? Below you'll find the first promotional poster for the flick which gives us a good first look at CHAPPIE himself.

So what's the film about? Well, Blomkamp himself has compared the film to ROBOCOP and E.T., which is an intriguing comparison. Here's the official synopsis:

After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.

The script was co-written by Terri Tatchell, based on Blomkamp's short "Tetra Vaal". After filming down in South Africa last year the film will be ready for release in March next year. Sony Pictures has penciled in a March 6th, 2015 release for CHAPPIE. Here's hoping we'll see a trailer soon enough.
