Real GBusters on DVD

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

The late 80s and early 90s were great–any movie that was remotely considered a ‘hit’ became a Saturday morning cartoon show that either went on to become something on its own, or simply had a season or two of glory before disappearing without a trace.

One of the bigger ‘hits’ was THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS and its spin-off, SLIMER AND THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, based on (of course) the GHOSTBUSTER movies. I watched the series like everyone else in my 4th grade class, and got a kick out of their weekly adventures, but have since forgotten about the series. Until now.

According to TV Shows on DVD, Time Life will be releasing the entire series of the cartoon on a 26-disc collector set, featuring every episode of the series (over 100 of em’), and some potentially great bonus features. That may be the biggest collector’s set of all time (sure as shit beats any set that I own!), which leads me to believe that there’s a quite the calling for the series on DVD.

No word on whether they’ll release specific seasons at a time, or if it’s the entire series or nothing. No word on pricing either, but I’m guessing you’ll have to fork over a pretty penny to watch Slimer, Egon, and the rest of the ghost-busting crew bust animated ghosts on the small screen.

I bought one DVD series through Time Life, and I (suppose) I was happy enough with it. It was the ‘Best of’ episodes of BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD, coming in on 5 or 6 discs. They included lots of great episodes, but sadly left out most (if not all) of the music videos with their commentary. Sometimes those were the best of parts of the show! Anyway, Time Life… they can do a decent job, that’s for sure.
