Red-band trailer for The Asylum's #HoldYourBreath!

Oct. 5, 2012by: Eric Walkuski

The Asylum's first theatrical venture, #HOLDYOURBREATH, is out today in theaters (and available on VOD as well), and to get you breathing heavy for it, we've got a red-band trailer below.

Sorry, no Mega Piranhas are featured...

Based on the urban myth that you can breathe in evil spirits when passing cemeteries, #HOLDYOURBREATH follows seven friends embarking on a weekend camping trip who pass a run-down cemetery and find themselves arguing about the legitimacy of the urban myth. When one friend refuses to hold his breath while passing by, he finds himself the unwitting host to a notorious serial killer who jumps from body to body in order to pick off each of the friends one-by-one.

The Jared Cohn-directed film stars Katrina Bowden, Randy Wayne and Erin Marie Hogan. For a list of theaters, head right on over HERE.

I'm with grelber , there's nothing about this that looks any better than the usual crappy , paint-by-number , formulaic , retreads that pop up like weeds , these days . An original idea ? don't hold your breath . On a positive note , Katrina Bowden is usually worth admission herself .

Hold Your Breath has too weak of a premise, IMO. For example, some films have characters recite "Bloody Mary . . ." before a mirror; then, Bloody Mary shows-up. Hold Your Breath looks no better than those formulaic films. The trailer promises nothing that I have not seen before. The Asylum does a lot of derivative material. Occasionally, the studio produces something good such as Paranormal Entity. But, The Asylum produces usually stuff such as Hold Your Breath appears to be. The studio did act

The studio did act wisely by releasing in October though. Compliments on a good marketing decision.
Obviously, silly premises work occasionally well in horror. But often, those successes make an old idea new. For example, Child's Play has a toy slasher instead of a slasher such as Michael and Jason. Darkness Falls had the Tooth Fairy as a villain, but she was a ghost, scarier than hell, and had an interesting history based in reality. Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a Van Helsing character, but she was a she and a high school kid.
