Simon Rumley delivered a finely crafted and truly disturbing film with 2010's RED, WHITE & BLUE, solidifying him as a director to keep an eye on, and followed that film up with one of the more solid entries in last years THE ABC'S OF DEATH with 'P is for Pressure'. Now The Hollywood Reporter is sharing that Rumley is set to take the helm on the paranormal-themed thriller THE LAST WORD with A7SLE Films principals Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco, along with Eric Gores and Frank Mancuso Jr. of Boss Media, producing.

Based on true events, THE LAST WORD centers on the strange and tragic aftermath endured by the participants in the trial of a young man in Texas who was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun.

The film was written by Ben Ketai (BENEATH) and is slated to commence production this summer with plans for FilmDistrict to release the film domestically in 2014.

RED WHITE and BLUE was a powerhouse of a flick , that more genre fans need to check out. He also brought us the brilliant THE LIVING AND THE DEAD , another hard to watch at times but beautifully crafted film. Looking forward to this.

The Last Word has the right director attached in Rumley. He can fearlessly explore difficult, uncomfortable subject matter. I look forward to seeing what he does with this story. If nothing else, I know that Rumley will remember to include the human element in his film. Normally, horror and suspense fans watch horrible things happen to

If nothing else, I know that Rumley will remember to include the human element in his film. Normally, horror and suspense fans watch horrible things happen to unsympathetic characters. But, as experienced with RWB, Rumley can present likeable and understandable characters in gut-wrenching situations.

Too true! Red, White & Blue bothered me for several days after watching it and, truth be told, not many films nowadays can have that kind of an effect on viewers. Can't wait to hear more about this one with Rumley at the helm.
