Return to Placid!

Nov. 1, 2007by: PJ Germain

It is no surprise that the straight-to-dvd sequel push has been getting bigger and bigger. With films like WRONG TURN 2 and RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, pretty soon no film will be untouched. Well now you can feast your eyes upon LAKE PLACID 2, being released on January 29, 2008.

Arrow In The Head got the scoop from Fox Home Entertainment about the dvd sequel, which they call "gory, gruesome action". I suppose that's a lot more than the original had!

In an all out battle between man and beast, a local sheriff teams up with a wildlife agent and a big game hunter to kill four bloodthirsty offspring from the first fearsome creatures of the original campy-horror film. John Schneider (Dukes Of Hazzard, Smallville), Sam McMurray (The King of Queens, The Tracy Ullman Show) and Sarah Lafleur (Greys Anatomy, Crossing Jordan) star as the trio on a mission to save the town from the gigantic reptiles. The film also features Academy Award winner Cloris Leachman (Best Supporting Actress, The Last Picture Show, 1972, Malcolm In The Middle) as a croc-lover bent on saving the creatures.

The dvd retails at $26.98 and will be available in Widescreen (for you film purists) and Full Screen. It will also featured in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound with English, Spanish and French subtitles. Also the dvd is packed with some features that I can only expect from a dvd sequel.

Lake Placid 2 DVD Special Features:

Sex, Guns and Croc-n-Roll featurette a tongue-in-cheek, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the campy sequel.
Surviving A Crocodile Attack featurette
Lake Placid 2: The Gnawed Up Version a sped up version of the film that takes you directly to the action.

So if haven't had enough of your killer croc fix, then check out LAKE PLACID 2 out on dvd January 29th!

Hey, as long as it's FUNNY, like the original (the original IS a comedy, after all, but with a crocodile twist), it should be good.

If it's just a serious, straight-faced excuse to show off guts and gore in a PRIMEVAL/ROGUE kind of way, however...forget it.
