Rian Johnson talks his time-travel flick Looper & compares it to Terminator

Are you guys excited for Rian Johnson’s time-travel thriller LOOPER? Well you should be!

Alright, to be fair LOOPER hasn’t really given us much to be excited about yet but the potential is definitely there. That potential builds even more with today’s update from the LA Times. You see The Times recently had a chance to chat with Johnson (right) about his upcoming sci-fi romp and the director was kind enough to spill some details for us. In talking about star Joseph Gordon-Levitt being made-up to look like a younger Bruce Willis:

“That was really scary because you commit to that and there’s no real way out of i. But the biggest thing is Joe’s performance, he’s really doing Bruce in a big and daring way, but he strikes a balance between obviously imitating Bruce and also building this organic performance.”

And in regards to the time-travel element of the film and the problems it brings up plot-wise: “Time travel just never makes sense. If you just tell somebody the plot, you’re inevitably telling them the time travel stuff, but the movie actually uses that as a set-up. The best parallel I can draw is to the first ‘Terminator’ movie where time travel is used to set up this impossible situation between these people and then that situation plays itself out.”

Sounds good to me! LOOPER is set to hit theaters on September 28th with a cast that includes Gordon-Levitt, Willis, Emily Blunt (below), Piper Perabo, Garrett Dillahunt, Paul Dano, and Xu Qing.
