Ridley Scott says Blade Runner 2 is ‘surprisingly clever’, explains delay

I can already hear the chorus of boos I may receive from saying this, but I'm actually excited by the prospect of a sequel to BLADE RUNNER. We're closer than ever to actually seeing it happen with some recent updates on the proposed project over the past several months from director Ridley Scott, and even original star Harrison Ford has stated that he's eager to tackle the sequel. So why hasn't it moved further than the script-writing stage? Ridley Scott recently shared the reason in a recent interview with Yahoo! UK.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Scott revealed that he and Ford have been discussing the sequel to BLADE RUNNER as recently as the night before Ford’s well-publicized injury on the set of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, revealing…

“We met the night before he had the accident.”

It's Ford's commitment to the currently-shooting STARS WARS films that have kept the actor and Scott from pushing forward with BLADE RUNNER 2. Scott is still adamant that the sequel is in their futures and that the script is solid, sharing…

“It’s on the charts. I can’t say when that would be yet, because of [Ford’s] thing with ‘Star Wars’. It’s a sequel – it’s what happens next. It’s quite surprisingly clever.”

What is so 'clever' about the sequel remains to be seen, but if we're going to get a sequel to BLADE RUNNER I'm glad Scott and Ford will be involved. I'm just hoping that it happens sooner rather than later.
