Rights to Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles bought by Paramount

Paramount is getting their ass to Mars with an adaption of the classic Ray Bradbury short story collection THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES. The Hollywood Reporter has heard from "multiple sources" that producer John Davis (PREDATOR, the upcoming series "Locke & Key") will oversee the adaptation of the book of short stories that Bradbury wrote in the late 1940s about humans trying colonize Mars.

No writer or director has been given the assignment of this new version yet... Michael Anderson directed a 1980 TV miniseries based on THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES starring Rock Hudson and Roddy McDowell; Richard Matheson wrote the teleplay.

The synopsis for the collection: Ray Bradbury's Mars is a place of hope, dreams and metaphor-of crystal pillars and fossil seas-where a fine dust settles on the great, empty cities of a silently destroyed civilization. It is here the invaders have come to despoil and commercialize, to grow and to learn -first a trickle, then a torrent, rushing from a world with no future toward a promise of tomorrow. The Earthman conquers Mars ... and then is conquered by it, lulled by dangerous lies of comfort and familiarity, and enchanted by the lingering glamour of an ancient, mysterious native race.

Coincidentally, I just picked up the miniseries on DVD, having never seen it or read the stories that inspired it. Seems like a very good time to give it a look.

Extra Tidbit: Have you ever read THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES or seen the TV miniseries?
