R.I.P. Frailty & Red Dawn star Powers Boothe

05.15.2017by: Mike Sprague

Powers Boothe has died at 68.

To most of us, actor Powers Boothe was known as FBI Agent Wesley Doyle in Bill Paxton's neo-classic FRAILTY, Lt. Col. Andrew 'Andy' Tanner in John Milius' RED DAWN, and as Senator Roark in Robert Rodriguez's SIN CITY

That said, the man was well-known outside of the genre-circle for starring in such classics as THE AVENGERS, DEADWOOD, U-TURN, MACGRUBER, and 24. And let's not forget his turns in the action flicks SUDDEN DEATH, TOMBSTONE, and RAPID FIRE.

The actor’s longtime publicist Karen Samfillipo gave this statement:

Powers died in his sleep this morning of natural causes.  There will be a private service held in Texas where he was from.  A memorial celebration in his honor is being considered for a future date.  Donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which honors the nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need.

This sad new follows on the heels of fellow genre legend Michael Parks' passing last week at the age of 77, and Boothe's FRAILTY director/co-star Bill Paxton earlier this year.

Boothe's 2nd film role was in William Friedkin's CRUISING as "Hankie Salesman".

Extra Tidbit: His favorite role was in the sci-fi horror film MUTANT SPECIES (1994).
