Roland Emmerich plans to reboot Stargate as a trilogy

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

It looks like director Roland Emmerich is aiming to reboot his cult classic sci-fi flick STARGATE with not one but three films! Go ahead and let that digest. That's right folks, co-creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin plan on making a big screen STARGATE trilogy and they will soon be on the hunt for a writer. Don't expect to see Kurt Russell and James Spader return however as Emmerich stated, "The actors look totally different… it would not work." — which totally makes sense because if they plan on rebooting the film into three parts they're going to need new faces to carry the trilogy.

"We went to MGM, who has the rights, and proposed to them to do a sequel, but as a reboot… and reboot it as a movie and then do three parts. Pretty soon we’ll have to look for a writer and start" Emmerich told Digital Spy. I know it isn't much to go on but it's certainly a start and a pretty damn exciting one at that!

Emmerich's upcoming INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel, titled ID FOREVER, is currently scheduled to invade theaters on July 3rd, 2015. After that though, the filmmakers plan to head straight into their work on the STARGATE trilogy.
