Ron Howard may still make Willow 2 with Warwick Davis

For those of you who might not know, director Ron Howard recently replaced the directors of 21 & 22 JUMP STREET on the new STAR WARS spin-off SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY. While out and about promoting the new film, Howard spoke a little about some of the films he’d like to see get reboots and/or sequels, and one in particular stuck out to me.

Yes, Howard says that he still has plans to make a sequel to his creepy fantasy film WILLOW, which starred Warwick Davis (LEPRECHAUN) and Val Kilmer. No word on if Kilmer would return in Howard’s (possible) sequel, but Howard did say there is a significant role in there for Davis and his lovable Willow.

Ron Howard:

I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.

Elora Danan for those who might need a refresher course is the little-redheaded baby that Willow adopts and protects throughout the original film. Ah, and it all makes sense. Hire a hot redhead to play the grownup version (such as Emma Stone, or hell even Howard’s actual daughter Bryce Dallas Howard) and – boom – box-office dollars for days.

As sound as Howard’s plans read, I don’t know if a revisit to the world of WILLOW is something the world needs. But then again, in this age of GAME OF THRONES, maybe some (relatively) lighthearted shenanigans in fantasy-medieval times is just what the too-dark-for-kids doctor ordered.
