It's not yet clear just how much of a genre film director Charlie McDowell's film THE DISCOVERY will turn out to be, but the story has some intriguing elements and the film now has a pair of great actors in the lead roles: Rooney Mara of David Fincher's take on THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (and, yes, the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake) and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD's Nicholas Hoult.
Scripted by McDowell and Justin Lader, THE DISCOVERY is described as
a gripping love story set in a world where the existence of the afterlife is scientifically proven.
Hoult's character is the son of the man who officially discovered the afterlife, and he falls in love with Mara's character, a woman with a tragic past.
THE DISCOVERY is being produced by Alex Orlovsky of Verisimilitude and James D. Stern of Endgame Entertainment. Endgame is co-financing the film with Protagonist Pictures, who will be presenting the project to buyers at the American Film Market next week.
Filming on THE DISCOVERY is expected to begin in Rhode Island in January.
