Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The cast continues to grow for AMC’s The Walking Dead spinoff as Deadline is reporting that Ruben Blades has closed a deal for a series regular role. Blades will play Daniel, the father of Mercedes Mason’s character, who was just cast last week. Together, they join the previously announced Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black), Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens (GONE GIRL), Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam Carey (INTO THE STORM). Earlier today we caught some new details on the series and whether or not it’s actually a prequel to The Walking Dead—you can read that right HERE if you missed it!

Fear the Walking Dead will take place far away from the Atlanta, Georgia setting of “The Walking Dead” in the streets of Los Angeles, amid the early days of the infection.

Series creator Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert from The Walking Dead are executive producers of the new series, which is being produced by AMC Studios. Dave Erickson (“Marco Polo,” “Sons of Anarchy”), who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, is an executive producer and showrunner. Adam Davidson will direct the pilot episode.

A second season is already planned and will air sometime in 2016.
