Sam Raimi’s next flick may be a mystery-thriller about the Bermuda triangle

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Any time there's news on the Sam Raimi front, I sit up and take notice. Raimi has given use horror fans many gifts disguised as movies over the years, such as EVIL DEAD 2 and DRAG ME TO HELL), that he gets a pass for every OZ: THE GREAT & POWERFUL.

With that in mind, I'd like to report that Sam Raimi is currently in talks to direct a new mystery-thriller for Skydance centering on… the Bermuda Triangle. Perfect fit, yes? Yes.

The Bermuda Triangle has been quite popular with the studios these last few years as both Universal and Warner Bros are both looking to get flick made about the mysterious spot of open ocean.

Plot details for the Raimi/Skydance Bermuda Triangle movie are being kept under wraps but in another cool horror-related bit of business, the script has was originally written by FREDDY VS JASON and FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009) scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

However, word is a new draft has been knocked out by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard.

For those who have lived on another planet before reading this article, here is a rundown on the Bermuda Triangle via Wikipedia:

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a loosely-defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Most reputable sources dismiss the idea that there is any mystery. The vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle is one of the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships frequently crossing through it for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean islands. Cruise ships and pleasure craft regularly sail through the region, and commercial and private aircraft routinely fly over it.

Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors.

While there isn't currently a studio attached to the project, hopefully the addition of Sam Raimi will get the ball rolling ahead sooner rather than later.

And, as always, remember this bit of motivational trivia: by the time Sam Raimi was 33 he had already directed EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD 2, ARMY OF DARKNESS, and DARKMAN.

Time to get to get back to work, fellas.
