San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton to direct Dwayne Johnson and kaiju in Rampage

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It was exactly one month ago today when we learned that SAN ANDREAS producer Beau Flynn and star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would be re-teaming to try to replicate the worldwide success of that film with an adaptation of the kaiju video game RAMPAGE. At the time, it was said that the search was on for a director. That search is now over, as they didn't have to go very far to find the man they were looking for.

Sticking with a winning formula, RAMPAGE will be directed by SAN ANDREAS director Brad Peyton.

Written by NON-STOP scribe Ryan Engle, the script for RAMPAGE is said to be consistent with the source material and will show us what happens when

three giant monsters — a gorilla, a lizard and a wolf — wreak havoc on major cities and landmarks across North America, with Johnson standing in their path.

I haven't seen SAN ANDREAS yet, having been deterred by negative word of mouth, but over $460 million worth of people worldwide have seen it. I've actually never seen any of Brad Peyton's directorial efforts, his other films being CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE and JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. The quality of those movies means nothing to me, because I'm going to be in the theatre to watch The Rock fight kaiju in RAMPAGE regardless. Not even negative word of mouth would deter me from seeing that.
