SFX artist Remy Couture found not guilty on obscenity charges

Last week, we reported Canadian special effects artist and filmmaker Remy Couture was on trial in Montreal for obscenity charges. Now, we are pleased to hear that Couture has been found not guilty.

"It's like a 400-pound weight has been lifted,'' Couture stated to reporters while exiting the courthouse Saturday. "It's been the most stressful thing I've ever had to go through in my life,'' he added. Couture has since confirmed plans to continue creating works like those found in his INNER DEPRAVITY short film series.

Whether or not you are a fan the graphic style of "torture porn" Couture pedals, the verdict represents a major win for Canadian filmmakers and horror fans alike. It is certainly the best Christmas present Couture is likely to get this year. We send our congrats and look forward to seeing his work continue in 2013.

Extra Tidbit: The seven-woman, five man jury apparently had trouble stomaching an examination of Couture's works. I'd say that's a testament to the man's craft if there ever was one...
