Sharknado 3 is definitely happening according to Syfy press release

We all saw this coming. SHARKNADO 3 has been confirmed by Syfy today in a press release touting the extraordinary ratings for last week’s SHARKNADO 2. But this has been on the network’s mind for a while: a few months ago, they basically said SHARKNADO would be an annual event. That means we’re not only getting SHARKNADO 3, but a never-ending franchise. What’s next, SHARKNADO: ORIGINS? SHARKNADO: REVELATIONS? I shudder.

SHARKNADO 3 airs in July.

Led by Sharknado 2: The Second One, Syfy’s Sharknado Week (July 28-August 3), soared 80 percent among Adults 18-49, 74 percent in Adults 25-54 and 73 percent among total viewers (L+SD), compared to summer to date (May 26-July 27).

The reach for the eight Sharknado franchise (Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One) airings hit 18.2 million total viewers, with the reach for the entire week of shark-infested programming cuming at 25.8 million P2+.

Following Sharknado 2: The Second One’s record-setting 3.9 million total viewers premiere on Wednesday, July 30 at 9PM (ET/PT), the pop culture sensation’s repeats devoured 1.8 million victims on July 30 at 11PM, 2.3 million on Saturday, August 2 at 7PM and 1.5 million on Sunday, August 3 at 9PM.

Roger Corman’s Sharktopus vs Pteracuda, featuring a cameo by Conan O’Brien, premiered on Saturday, August 2 at 9PM with 2.0 million total viewers, 760K Adults 18-49 and 831K Adults 25-54.

For the week, Syfy was the #3 ranked prime cable entertainment network among Adults 18-49 (665K), #4 among Adults 25-54 (739K) and #5 among total viewers (1.7 million).

Sharknado 2: The Second One will encore next Wednesday, August 13 at 9PM, with Sharknado 1 kicking off the night at 7PM.

And yes, Sharknado 3 will hit land next July 2015!
