Sitges 2006 cap-off!

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

JOBLO.COM/AITH DOES SITGES 2006!

WOW! My “journalistic” foray at
the Sitges
Film Festival
last year (which takes place in Spain, near
Barcelona) was a blast
in itself but nothing could’ve prepared me for the fun and the amount of work I
would have to put in this year.

You see, I got really freaking ambitious on this round.
First I was attending the Festival as member of the
New Vision Jury
(with kool dudes

Carlos Martin Ferrera

and
Frédéric Temps
) meaning I had to watch
10 films in all to perform my duties. Sadly for me 70 percent of them didn’t
crank my dial (We awarded

EDMOND
as the winner of our section with a
special mention to The Living and the Dead… for those who
care).

Sitges is on baby!

I was also there as
Press for the site, hence
watching AND reviewing 11 films (mostly pretty good ones too). Finally, I was there
to present our little film
DEADEN
in its world premiere. It was part of a
double bill with
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
and as
reported
earlier on the site
, the screening went well. I was a happy camper in toe-tag land.

Topple on top of that the party heavy nature of Sitges (do these people
ever sleep) & the making of many new friends and I was burning
the candle
from both ends. I even had “to cut down on booze” 3 days in just to be able
to keep doing what I had to do. Me lower by drinking intake??? NUTS! NUTS I TELL
YA!

Introducing DEADEN to the Sitges crowd with
great man Mike Hostench (Sitges Assistant Director) translating for me! What
a trip that was!

With that said, Sitges is my
favorite Festival for varied reasons. As per last year the film selection
was top-notch, the people that run and attend the festival are mucho
hospitable and the setting (ocean front, old school Spanish type town) couldn’t be more
endearing and awe inspiring. Yup, I simply LOVE SITGES!

My only bummer is that I missed
out on THE FOUNTAIN and UNKNOWN, two films I was dying to see
but what can you do.
Okay, enough chit chat ladies! Here are the films that I checked out and
their respective reviews:
