Spawn begins filming this February!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As you can imagine, one of the top must-see films for us here at AITH is Todd McFarlane and Blumhouse's R-rated SPAWN film. I've been dying for new updates and today we got a hell of one.

McFarlane says that pre-production on SPAWN will begin after Christmas of this year with filming to follow shortly after in February of 2018!

Not only that but McFarlane confirmed the film's budget at $10 million and says, while Universal has a first-look deal with Blumhouse, it is entirely possible another studio will end up distributing the movie.

Todd McFarlane on distribution:

The only things we need from them are distribution and marketing. We don’t need your input, we don’t need your cash, we don’t need your creativity – and they don’t like those deals. They always want the budget to go up because then they have to put money in it and then they own it.

Don't hold back now, Todd. Tell us how you really feel about the studio system. Ha. Gotta love this guy. Speaking of which, McFarlane then addressed his confidence in directing his first flick.

McFarlane on directing his first film:

I didn’t use to draw comic books and I drew comic books and I won awards. I don’t know how to read music and I have a Grammy Award.

I’m spending my own money so who cares if it doesn’t work out. It’s a $10 million budget movie, and (a studio) would just get a 22-year-old punk director. I just want to be the old punk directing it.

How excited are you for Todd McFarlane and Blumhouse's SPAWN? Make sure to hit us up and let us know in the comments below or on FacebookTwitter, and/or Instagram!
