You guys remember back in May, when we got our last update on the inevitable JUDGE DREDD reboot? Well last we heard the project's writer (Alex Garland) and director (Pete Travis) were planning on shopping that shite around Cannes. So what's the lowdown now?

According to the guys over at Bleeding Cool it seems the project is still very much in the works and there's already somebody in line to play The Judge! It seems STAR TREK star Karl Urban will be offered the role of the titular character and he's expected to except. It's also confirmed that the film will indeed be in 3D, it'll be darker than the 1995 adaptation and 'Judge Dredd' will not remove his helmt in this new reboot, ala the comics. So basically they're scrapping the '95 flick and pulling straight from the comic. Nice!

Judge Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot.

That's the basic setup to the comics though obviously the synopsis for the new film is still unknown. So what do you guys think? Could you see Urban as a badass 'Judge Dredd?' (Get a hint of it above...) Are you even excited for a new 'Judge Dredd' flick to begin with? Hit us with your thoughts below and keep it here for more on this intriguing project as we hear it!

Extra Tidbit: Diane Lane (above) starred in 1995's JUDGE DREDD alongside Sylvester Stallone.

Karl Urban would be fine.

Just need a good director and science fiction writer.

I was one of the few who actually enjoyed the 1995 movie. As usual with me, I had not read the original comics, so I didn't know that Judge Dredd was not allowed to remove his helmet etc. However, I did have a huge problem with the character of Herman. I don't know if he is in the comics, but he definitely made this movie much goofier than it needed to be. Therefore, I am going to step away from my normal hatred for remakes/reboots, and say that I look forward to a much darker Judge Dredd,
