Stephen King says he wasn't asked to be involved in the making of IT at all

Yesterday we shared a news article about which novel Stephen King would like to see adapted next - which you can check out HERE - and in that same Variety post, I found an interesting bit of info that I chose to remove from yesterday's article for reasons of brevity.

But the subject keeps digging at me. So I'm going to go back to the well a bit here and bring up the fact that during his interview with Variety, King was asked how involved he was in the production of the upcoming feature adaptation of his masterpiece novel, IT.

Turns out he wasn't given so much as a t-shirt.

King on his involvement with Andy Muschietti's IT:

I wasn’t involved at all. I wished them well. Geez, I don’t even think they sent me any swag from that one! But maybe that’s a good thing. I’ve seen it, it’s fabulous.

Wow. King left out of the production of IT altogether. That hurts. That's too bad. But there was a bit in the set-visit our own Eric Walkuski paid to the set last year where Muschietti said this about King's involvement:

I’m very happy making an adaptation, my interpretation of the story, and I would be thrilled to meet Stephen King, but there comes a time in the process where you start feeling good with your interpretation of it, and your contribution to the story, and it doesn’t feel like I want to discuss my ideas with him, you know? I don’t know. It feels like something that I would be embarrassed to tell him, you know? “Your words and your moments don’t work,” right?

To which I say, "Fair enough."

Adapting the massive book must have taken something fierce out of Muschietti and the pressure of King telling you your take on his work is bupkis might be too much to take as a director within the throes of production.

Again, I don't personally blame the man. But still, sad that King was left out in the rain without so much as a red balloon to keep him company. Where were all the other peeps involved with the flick?

I don't mean to start anything here, but I'd like to know what you guys think of King being left out of IT, so make sure to let us know in the comments below and/or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

At least King thinks the movie is "fabulous."

Extra Tidbit: Also, let us know if you're currently re-reading IT.
