After waiting many years to get a good look at the film adaptation of Stephen King's CELL (co-written by King himself), we finally have an official trailer and poster for the thriller. Directed by Tod Williams, CELL stars John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Stacy Keach, Owen Teague and Isabelle Fuhrman.

At the Boston airport, Clay (Cusack) witnesses a scene of chaotic mayhem when an electronic signal turns hundreds of cell phone users into rabid killers. Desperate to find his estranged wife and son, Clay teams with a train driver (Jackson) to battle the horde of murderous “phoners” as the city descends into apocalyptic madness.

CELL hits "ultra VOD" on June 10th before moving onto a limited theatrical and wide VOD release July 8th.

Eh...

I think we can no longer judge films based upon DTV since VOD is the new thing, especially for new horror. There are even services now that you can rent big budget films such as BVS same day as theaters for $50 at home. I think VOD is the best thing that has happened for getting horror films scene in a long time! With that said, the trailer doesn't look that great. I hate to be a novel guy (and I thought the book was OK) but it looks like the story was really manipulated for film. That

Cell seems to play with a few concepts. Our smartphones have turned us into zombies in many ways. Our hyper-connected society has turned us into a collective like in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That truth is there too. And, scientific progress holds dangers such as science fiction often recognizes.
So, Cell has a good premise. However, the trailer and DTV release have me concerned about its quality. It looks like a skip-it for now.
