Stephen King's The Mist to become a TV series for Spike

02.25.2016by: Eric Walkuski

Stephen King's classic novella THE MIST has life in it even after Frank Darabont's movie adaptation. It's being reported that Spike has given a pilot order to The Mist: The Series; Dimension Television, which recently turned SCREAM into a successful TV show, will produce. This was first reported as a possibility back in September, but now it's really happening.

THE MIST will be overseen by Christian Torpe, a Danish writer who created the popular series Rita in Denmark.

In case you're somehow unaware, THE MIST goes like this:

It's a hot, lazy day, perfect for a cookout, until you see those strange dark clouds. Suddenly a violent storm sweeps across the lake and ends as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had begun. Then comes the mist...creeping slowly, inexorably into town, where it settles and waits, trapping you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world. The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. What unleashed this terror? Was it the Arrowhead Project---the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you're forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light?

“We are excited to be in business with Spike on their first scripted production pilot and working with the very talented Christian Torpe to further explore Stephen King’s classic novella and bring this riveting series to television audiences,” said Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company.

I'm done watching King adaptations for the most part. I've been disappointed too many times. If Frank Darabont does another one or they get another director on the level of Kubrick or even Carpenter, De Palma or Reiner when they made their King adaptations I'll check them out and if King himself writes the screenplay I'll watch because I'm a completist when it comes to his works. Barring one of those two things, count me out.
