Stephen Lang joins WGN America’s Salem

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

We're only a couple of days away from the debut episode of WGN America's "Salem", a new witch-themed series that we're stoked to finally check out. Everything we've seen from the new series so far has definitely piqued our interest and I have high hopes it can deliver some quality horror television. Now Deadline is reporting that AVATAR and "Terra Nova" star Stephen Lang has joined the cast of "Salem", which is a very welcome addition as Lang is one of the very best character actors working in the biz today.

According to Deadline, Lang is set to play 'Increase Mather, an old-line, hard-core Puritan who led the way across the ocean to the Promised Land in the late 1600s. Intellectually, spiritually and politically, he’s the most influential man in the country — and the most feared.'

Lang joins star Janet Montgomery as the ruthless but vulnerable Mary Sibley, Salem’s most powerful enchantress – and Alden’s onetime love interest; Shane West as handsome, hardened war veteran John Alden; Seth Gabel as local aristocrat Cotton Mather who fans the flames of Salem’s witch hunt; Ashley Madekwe as Mary’s mysterious, carnal accomplice; Xander Berkeley as chief politician Magistrate Hale; Tamzin Merchant as the forthright Anne Hale, an artist with a perilous attraction to Alden; and Elise Eberle as the mysteriously afflicted Mercy Lewis.

"Salem" debuts Sunday, April 20 with an episode titled 'The Vow'. Here's that episodes synopsis:

John Alden (West) returns from war to discover that the woman he left behind is now married to another man and that his hometown of Salem, Mass., is in the midst of a witch panic in the premiere of this supernatural drama.

I'm looking forward to checking "Salem" out this weekend. Hopefully it'll cast a bewitching spell over us.
