Supernatural BBC series Being Human being remade on the SyFy Channel

Jan. 13, 2010by: Jared Pacheco

I've seen news items about a BBC television series BEING HUMAN here and there but I've never really taken notice of it. Well silly me. It seems BEING HUMAN is pretty popular across the pond and just so happens to be a show that is right down our alley!

The supernatural dramedy just started it's second season in the UK and stars Lenora Crichlow, Russell Tovey and Aidan Turner. It follows three apparent twenty-something characters sharing a house in Bristol, trying to live a normal social life, despite being a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire. What? .. That sounds awesome! How have we missed this?! Oh wait... it's in the UK... damn... But wait!

Word broke today over at TheFutonCritic that the SyFy Channel have just picked up the rights to remake BEING HUMAN for the US audience! Obviously it won't be the same as the BBC series but as long as it's got the same synopsis you've got me sold. Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke are penning the series, with possible plans being to launch it this Summer! SyFy's head of original programming Mark Stern had the following to say regarding BEING HUMAN's writers:

"[He's] kind of got the genre cred and Anna comes out of a more character-based drama world so between them they'll be really interesting."

So there you have it! I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty excited about this. Anyone out there have the chance to check out the BBC series? Is it worth this excitement or should I just give up now! Spit some bullets below with what you think and be sure to keep it here for updates on BEING HUMAN as we hear them!

Extra Tidbit: SyFy also have updates of RIVERWORLD and THE PHANTOM on the way as well as HAVEN, a series based on Stephen King's THE COLORADO KID.

The BBC series is very good indeed, you really should seek it out.

I'm not keen on the idea of a US remake of it. They're not going to be able to top it, so why bother?

I agree, I also feel like it's already been done with Buffy and True Blood. They're all very similar in tone and context, so rather than remake it Americans could always just watch those. As for the rumour Jarad Leto is playing George, that's one of the worst pieces of casting I've ever heard.
