Supernatural thriller Jinn coming in April 2014

2 years agoby: Kevin Woods

It's been well over a year since we last heard any news regarding Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad's JINN (not to be confused with Turkish director Hasan Karacadağ's THE JINN or Tobe Hooper's DJINN), with our last report coming in September of 2012 when it was announced that Freestyle Releasing had acquired the U.S. theatrical rights to the Ray Park-starring film.

Today brings us the news that Detroit-based Exxodus Pictures and Freestyle Releasing have finally announced the North American wide theatrical release date for JINN, with the film scheduled to bow on April 4, 2014. It's been a long wait. Let's hope it'll have been worth it.

The film, written and directed by Ahmad, was produced by Ahmad, Benjamin Dresser, Alan Noel Vega and stars Dominic Rains (FLIGHT 93), Serinda Swan (USA’s “Graceland”), Ray Park (Darth Maul, baby!), Faran Tahir (ELYSIUM) and William Atherton (DIE HARD). Richard Mandell, Najam Syed and Shahid Syed executive produced the film for Exxodus.

The amazing story of JINN involves ancient mythological beings that have rarely been explored in US cinemas. The premise of the jinn concept, known to over 1 billion people around the world, involves ghost-like entities and revolves around creation mythology.

In the beginning, three were created.  Man made of clay.  Angels made of light.  And a third made of fire.  For centuries, stories of angels and men have captured the imagination and been etched into history crossing all boundaries of culture, religion and time.  These two races have dominated the landscape of modern mythology, shrouding the evidence that a third was ever created.  This third race, born of smokeless fire, was named the jinn.  Modern man has all but forgotten this third race ever existed.  It is time for him to remember.

We'll be keeping an eye out for more news regarding this one. Hopefully we'll start seeing some new artwork and trailers soon enough.

Extra Tidbit: Do you know the legend of the Jinn? Think it'll make for an interesting film?
