It has been a while since we shared any news on the casting process for the television series Snowpiercer, based on the 2013 SNOWPIERCER film directed by Bong Joon-ho. It's been almost three months, in fact. But now we have an update, as two more actresses have signed on to join the show's cast.

Snowpiercer begins

after an apocalyptic ice age leaves Earth as a frozen wasteland and will focus on the survivors who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. It explores class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.

So far will know that Daveed Diggs will be playing a prisoner in the tail end of the train, Jennifer Connelly is a first class passenger who handles the train's PA announcements, Mickey Sumner works on the train's security force, Annalise Basso will be playing a poor fourth class passenger, Sasha Frolova will be returning to the front of the train after serving three years in the prison car, Benjamin Haigh will play the poverty-stricken Fergus McConnell, and Alison Wright is likely the mother of Basso's character.

The new additions to the cast are Susan Park (pictured above), who you may know from the HBO series Vice Principals, as Jinju, the finest chef at the train's finiest restaurant, and Lena Hall (below) as Sayori, the train's archivist. Hall won a Tony for her stage performance as Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

The pilot episode of Snowpiercer is being directed by Scott Derrickson (SINISTER, DELIVER US FROM EVIL, DOCTOR STRANGE) from a script written by Josh Friedman. Friedman, who wrote AVATAR 4 for James Cameron – we'll be seeing that in theatres many years from now – will also be serving as showrunner on Snowpiercer.

Bong Joon-ho is executive producing the series with Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, Dooho Choi, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and CJ Entertainment.
