Suspiria: Part Two already in the works?

It was only earlier this afternoon that we brought you guys the new blood-splattered official poster (see below) for director Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA, which will finally hit theaters via Amazon Studios November 2nd. And now we have word via a recent Deadline interview with director Guadagnino that there may be more SUSPIRIA movies on the way.

Luca Guadagnino:

At the beginning, we were going to title the movie Suspiria: Part One but we didn’t want to give the impression of something that couldn’t stand alone. Truthfully, I’d be interested to explore the origin of Madame Blanc and Helena Marcus and also the future of Suzy Bannion in the world. So maybe. We’ll have to see how the movie goes.

The fact that the powers that be toyed around with the idea of calling the movie SUSPIRIA: PART ONE is more than enough confirmation, to me, that there is a SUSPIRIA: PART TWO somewhere in the pipeline, and even more sequels planned for this upcoming horror remake.

Dario Argento's original classic never spanned any direct sequels (unless you count the unofficial sequels INFERNO and MOTHER OF TEARS contained within Argento's Three Mothers trilogy), but that doesn't mean Guadagnino won't follow through with his ideas for expanding "the origin of Madame Blanc and Helena Marcus and also the future of Suzy Bannion in the world."

I guess we'll see if SUSPIRIA is a hit with mainstream audiences later this year.

Scripted by David Kajganich, the new take on SUSPIRIA stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Lutz Ebersdorf, Jessica Harper and Chloë Grace Moretz. The synopsis:

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe's artistic director (Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf). Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.

The remake is rated R for "disturbing content involving ritualistic violence, bloody images, and graphic nudity, and for some language including sexual references." Amazon Studios will be giving Guadagnino's SUSPIRIA a theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on October 26, with the film expanding nationwide on November 2, 2018.
